Headquartered in Edinburgh, Portland has a portfolio of five hotels across Scotland’s major cities and is currently structured as a Management Company providing services on an arm’s length basis to those properties, all currently owned by the group

Founded in 2001, we have a track record of turning round under performing hotels

Portland employs around 300 staff and whilst pragmatic and grounded, remains ambitious to grow

Colin Paton

Career in the hotel industry started in the mid 70’s via an HCIMA qualification which included time working at Gleneagles Hotel and in Biarritz. From 1983 to 1996 he worked in the area of hotel investment property brokerage and consulting in the UK, Europe and North America for organisations such as Christie & Co, The British Linen Bank (the merchant bank of The Bank of Scotland) and Colliers International Hotel Realty. Following his return to the UK from Vancouver, Canadain 1996 he passed the SFA Registered Representative Examinations. Shortly thereafter he became a hotel investor. Portland Hotels was formed by him in 2001. Colin is an Alumnus of Harvard Business School
